WHAT IS A DIGITAL COMPOSITE?
A digital composite is one of my absolute favorite pieces of art to create because of the extreme flexibility and creativity it allows - which leads to whatever photo you can think up without all the limitations of “real life”! There is no physical photoshoot involved in receiving a digital composite, unless otherwise discussed (if we cannot find a suitable photo to use in the piece then a physical photo session can be booked for an additional session fee). All you have to do is select your favorite photo of your child, or if you have had a session with me in the past, I can pick out a few that I believe will work best. A composite is meant to bring your child’s imagination and fun to life, or to create a meaningful keepsake for your family. They can range from more “realistic” photos - such as your child with a favorite animal or in a field of flowers, to the more “imaginative” photos - such as ones showcasing your child as a mermaid, in a hot air balloon, or really anything! What I do is use a photo of your child and create just about anything we can think up. Below are some examples of “before” and “afters”.
WHAT KIND OF PHOTOS SHOULD I SEND IN?
The clearest photos are always best, however, I also have created some of my most complex and favorite composites with lower quality cell phone shots! Since there is a lot of elements involved, and the final effect is reminiscent of a painting, it sometimes is just fine if the photo isn’t the highest quality… 90% of the time I can work with that. What IS important though is that it is not blurred completely. Blur can’t be unblurred.
For this type of artwork, it is even sometimes best if the child is NOT looking, so don’t worry about those tough kids that don’t look! That’s part of what made this my favorite work. My son is adorable, but it takes hundreds of photos to just get ONE of him smiling and looking at the camera at the same time. With a digital composite, I can use all the adorable photos I have that aren’t the traditional “looking and smiling” photo.
Do not worry too much about the photo choice just yet. Part of the process of creating this work will include me helping you to choose a photo if you don’t already have one in mind.
On the rare chance that there is absolute no photos available, a session can be booked, but that is not included in the pricing.
CAN I CHOOSE ANY THEME I WANT?
At this current time, as it is just now becoming a part of what I offer as a business, I am limiting the choices to several categories. Within those categories though, there is a lot if flexibility. For instance, if you were to choose the option of your child with a lamb in a flower field. I can change colors of flowers to match their character or the feel you are going for. I can also add or take away additional sheep, and just work around that photo you have supplied. So if you don’t see exactly what you may want, but you see an option that is close, let me know and we can figure it out. In the future, I will have a fully customizable option where we can start from scratch and create literally anything you can think of.
CAN I HAVE MORE THAN ONE CHILD IN THE ARTWORK?
You absolutely can. Because of the extra time it takes for each person within the photo, at this time there will be an added $25 for the second person. If you want separate composites for each child, those would have to be two separate orders. And don’t worry, if you have two children with very different likes, we could still attempt one photo that encompasses them both. For instance, thinking of my niece and nephew - one is into unicorns and fairies, while the other is a rough and tumble boy all around! Having them together could work, if, for instance, the girl is riding a unicorn, while my nephew is either climbing a tree, or riding on a lions back beside her. Or while one is a mermaid under the water, the other could floating on a ship above. I am all for making things work out, and the more I know your children, the better it will be! I will have a questionnaire upon placing your order to help me get a feel for what you are looking for, or simply what your child is like.
WHAT IS THE TURNAROUND TIME?
Part of the introductory price is that I am trying to get a feel for how long these take when creating for someone other than myself or family. I have done some composites that take four hours, and others that have taken two hours, or even over a span of a whole week to get just right. Once I can find an average, it will help adjust pricing and hopefully I will be able to give a better estimate. As of now, I am only offering ONE composite for each of the categories and I will work on the photos in the order that I have received them. So if you are first to grab one, it may be just a few days… if you are one of the last to place the order, it may be a few weeks. I will keep you updated on the progress as I go.
WHAT EXACTLY IS INCLUDED IN THE INTRODUCTORY PRICE?
For now, the price includes the creative fee plus a high-resolution digital copy. In the future, there may be products as an option. But that will all be to come.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER I PLACE MY ORDER?
I will be making up questionnaires for each theme available, and once your order has been received, I will send over the questionnaire and from there we can discuss further details of what each piece will include.
